I want to take today's post to brag about my little sister. A few days ago, she interviewed at the Oregon Zoo to become a Zoo Teen. If she gets the job, which I'm sure she will, she'll get to interact and take care of the animals, as well as teach little kids about the animals at the zoo. I think she's the absolute perfect person for this job, no doubt.
One of my favorite parts of the interview she told me about had to be when they asked her what kind of animal she'd be and why. Her answer? An owl because, "then I could turn my head around, so I'd basically have eyes on the back of my head, and I could fly, and I'm a night person, and because I've always wondered what yarping up a pellet would feel like.
This is an owl pellet. Yes, those are bones. My sister's a weirdo.
She definitely won "Most Creative Answer" though. In all seriousness, I was proud of the answers she gave. Considering this was her first interview for anything ever, and it was kind of a big deal, I think she did amazing. So amazing in fact that there was a kid who kept copying her answers. He'd answer the question first, always introducing himself beforehand, and after my sister gave her answer, he'd ask, "Oh, uh, can I add to mine?"
My sister has also developed quite the sense of humor since I've been at school. Before I left, this pretty much sums up her sense of humor:
Today though, when she was talking about the same kid who was stealing her answers, she got a little worked up and started to rant.
"(Mocking voice) 'Yeah I want to be a Zoo Teen because I have this really deep connection with animals and they have a deep connection with me. It's a mutual thing.' Awesome, is it Facebook official then?"
It probably was a "You had to be there moment," but my point isn't what she said, it's that she actually said something witty and hilarious. I've only been away a few months, but in many ways she's a different person than when I left. Don't get me wrong, she still earns the nickname "Derps," but she's a lot more sure of herself now, which I think is awesome. She used to care a lot about what other people thought of her and her dorkiness, but now she just owns it and I'm proud of her.
