Day Thirty

:( My first (and hopefully only) late post. There was just too much to do for this post and not enough time to do it in. My apologies.

As I mentioned on Friday, I went on my first assignment :) Instead of writing about the details of the assignment itself, I want to write about my experience there, because it renewed my certainty in what I want to do as my career.

Let me start by saying I really love other cultures. I'm fascinated by them. At the Asian Celebration, I got a small taste of those other cultures, but instead of experiencing them at a convention center in Eugene, Oregon, I want to experience them in their native land. Instead of photographing Indonesian dancers in Oregon, I want to photograph them in Indonesia. It's just not the same.

The women are beautiful, I love the framing, but the background just isn't right. The brightly colored, intricate dresses look out of place against the drab indoor stage, with artificial lighting. This is Indonesia:

Those women would be so much more beautiful in front of this backdrop. It's extremely frustrating and it makes me even more ready to get out and see the world. As soon as possible, I want to be traveling around Asia and Africa and the Middle East, taking pictures and meeting people and exploring.
This was my favorite photo from yesterday's assignment. These women were performing a traditional Balinese dance. What I wouldn't give to see it in Bali...

Here's Bali, in case you're not sure where it is:

P.S. Hit 1,000 views today! Thanks guys!
