Today marked the beginning of spring term and honestly, I'm excited to be back on campus. I didn't think much of this school during winter term because of the horrible weather and lack of any activity, but just before spring break I saw a glimpse of what spring term on campus was going to be like and I love it. First off, look at this campus:
It's beautiful! And look at all the people just hanging out on the lawn, enjoying the sun. This is what I expected college to be like and honestly, this is the reason I chose to go to a big school. Once it gets sunny, I'll be spending all of my time outside (in shorts no less!). All of my spring and summer clothes made their way out of the back of my closet at home and into my wardrobe-thing in my dorm room and I'm just excited to be able to wear them. I am not a winter person.
When it comes to classes, I have five this term:
- Intro to Comparative Lit ~ "Study of visual culture from around the world." This is either going to be really lame or the greatest class ever. It's a combination of the two things that make up my career path so I'm really pumped about this class. I have high expectations for you Professor Allan, don't let me down!
- Japanese ~ I think I may actually die from this class this term. I barely made it out of last term with an A- and I'm worried about this term. Just a note to anyone picking a foreign language, there is a ridiculously large gap between the difficulty of Spanish and the difficulty of Japanese.
- Writing 122 ~ As far as writing classes go, I've heard you can either get really lucky or get absolutely screwed when it comes to your writing teacher. I haven't met mine yet, so fingers crossed.
- "Wrk 1st Year Program Training" ~ This is the training course I'm taking to be the FA of the "Silk Road" FIG next year. My job is going to be to help a group of freshman adjust to college during their first term. This course is going to help me plan my one-day-a-week course for next fall.
- Sexuality and Culture ~ I am excited for this one! This is that class that will probably be featured quite a bit on here in the next 10 weeks. I'm not quite sure what to expect but based on the syllabus, it's going to be a somewhat controversial course. It'll be interesting, that's for sure.
Now, on to some good news about Sam. Not only do I get to go to his graduation, I'll get to be there the day before for Family Day (thanks Professor Allan for being cool enough to offer early finals!) which is just a day that everyone who's graduating gets to spend taking their guests around the base and just hanging out and stuff like that. Other than seeing him of course, the thing I'm looking forward to most is seeing where he's been and meeting his friends. I think it's super important for people to at least meet their boyfriend/girlfriend's friends, especially the ones that are such a big part of their life. Sam knows all of my really close friends from home (duh) but only really knows my college friends from stories and maybe meeting them once or twice. Nothing we can really do about it though.
The other good news about Sam is that we get to vacation while he's back. I get to kidnap him for five days and we're going on a road trip. The only obstacle with that is we don't have a car to take, but I'm working on it. Our plan is to go down the Oregon Coast and maybe make it down to San Francisco if we have the time and don't spend all of our time finding cool stuff to do in Oregon and Northern California.
This is definitely on my list f things to see though:
Expect pictures, guys. Lots of pictures.
